How to ace your job interview according to an HR Rep
There are hundreds of tips out there on how to act during a job interview. Today, TBD
shares with you 5 important tips from an experienced Human Resources Representative, Ms. Najat Mohammed.
1- Be confident!
We get it, interviews can be intimidating and nerve-wracking. Mohammed stresses the importance of owning it!
“Remember, someone took some of their time to interview you, you are there for a reason”
Share with the interviewer what you can bring to the table
2- Transparency
“ I always value transparency when interviewing a person”.
Lying on your CV is a dead give-away. Interviewers are often quick to catch on. Especially when it comes to skills. A lot of people have a hard time when they are asked about their strengths and weaknesses? Should you really list your weaknesses? Mohammed recommends that you answer the question honestly.
“ What a lot of people consider to be weaknesses are actual strengths, if not there is
always room for improvement”.
3- Eagerness to Learn
When Najat first applied for her first HR job, she had no previous experience in the field. However, she was honest about it and made it clear that she was willing to learn.
“ A lot of people get intimidated when applying for positions that require certain
qualifications and years of experience."
"Qualifications and experiences are important, however, an eagerness to learn is even
more important."
4- Keep it cool
Najat, recommends following the pace of your interviewer. If the person interviewing you, is quick and witty, try to accommodate.
Another thing to consider is that some interviewers intentionally try to test the reactions of candidates. Keep it cool!
5- Don’t use the pity card
Mohammed warns, whatever you do- do not try to gain sympathy.
“ I have come across a lot of candidates who detail their hardships .I understand that the job market is hard, however, whether you get the job or not should be based on your own merit.”
“ Trust in yourself and your abilities”
